The Idea Behind Tiger

Photobucket

This ad was the second part of my two-painting, senior thesis. Like the LeBron painting, the same rules for Tiger apply here. However with the limited color pallet that this Nike commercial offers, I had to play a bit of a guessing game with my hues. Furthermore,I decided to execute Tiger's body with circles as compared to squares. Why? Well, I suppose the circles, to me provided more of a pulsating, explosive element that was needed to articulate the feeling I get when I view this ad. I just love how simple, yet extraordinary this ad / artistic concept is. A slow motion swing of the world's greatest athlete. I just had to translate this harmony onto canvas.

The Idea Behind LeBron

Photobucket

This amazing Nike commercial from 2007 inspired me to paint the large underwater scene of Lebron James. The ad was and still is my favorite. The music is perfect, the colors are stunning and the idea is so unique. Leading up to this painting, I had painted many pieces that dealt with the "grid." With what started as a few squares on a canvas earlier in the year, developed into thousands of squares, each with different characteristics to help create an image. And this particular painted image reflects not only my interest in the grid and pixilization, but my appreciation for advertising, technology, and athletics.
